Position Profile

The Senior Director, Compliance Officer, EU/RoW plays a pivotal role in ensuring that Jazz Pharmaceuticals is compliant with the laws and regulations pertaining to the company’s commercial operations as a pharmaceutical company in the European Union (EU) and the rest of the world (“RoW”). The position reports to the Senior Corporate Counsel, EU/RoW for management and operational purposes but serves as the principal point of contact and resource on compliance issues for the EU/RoW business unit of Jazz Pharmaceuticals and works closely with the global Chief Compliance Officer and the Compliance Operations department based in the U.S.

Essential Job Functions:

Job Responsibilities:
  • The Senior Director, Compliance Officer, EU/RoW will:
  • Provide advice and guidance to EU/RoW management and employees on compliance issues and the
  • Jazz Pharmaceuticals’ corporate compliance program.
  • Foster a culture of integrity and ethical behavior across the EU/RoW organization
  • Work closely with the Compliance Operations department in development and implementation of compliance policies and standard operating procedures, training, auditing and monitoring activities to ensure an effective compliance program throughout the EU/RoW organization
  • Develop and deliver training and education programs for EU/RoW employees on compliance policies and the legal and regulatory framework underlying those policies
  • Monitor compliance by EU/RoW management and employees with compliance policies and procedures and, when necessary and appropriate, work with Compliance Operations and other internal and external resources to adapt company policies for local jurisdictions
  • Work with relevant functions to develop and implement corrective action plans identified through compliance monitoring and auditing activities
  • Participate in the review and approval of advertising and promotional materials and training materials
  • Provide compliance support to the EU/RoW organization, including assistance with advisory board planning, publication strategies, and interactions with Key Opinion Leaders
  • Assist in investigating and resolving reports of alleged non-compliance received from employees or third parties
  • Monitor and analyze the regulatory environment in which EU/RoW operates, determine the potential impact of regulatory changes on the EU/RoW compliance program, and oversee necessary changes to compliance policies and processes
  • Chair the EU/RoW Compliance Committee and ensure oversight of the implementation of Jazz’s compliance program within EU/RoW
  • Represent Jazz and EU/RoW in industry associations and other ethics and compliance related stakeholder groups
  • Implement, under the supervision of the Chief Compliance Officer or his/her designee, ad hoc projects identified in the company’s annual compliance work plan
  • Lead special projects as assigned and participate in cross-functional teams and committees while demonstrating leadership ability to colleagues and business partners
  • Work closely with other members of the Legal & Compliance Department to ensure consistency in approach across areas of the overall business
  • Support major transactions, including M&A and other business development transactions, as needed
  • Willingly assist Legal & Compliance Department colleagues with projects and activities in areas outside of his/her primary areas of responsibility as needed to contribute to a collegial atmosphere and to balance workloads
Requirements:
  • Bachelor degree in appropriate subject matter is required. Advanced degree (such as MBA or JD) is preferred
  • Proven experience in a pharmaceutical, medical device or biotechnology company, healthcare company and/or hospital. Experience working in small to mid-cap pharmaceutical companies is a plus. Preference for candidate with legal or regulatory experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of healthcare compliance and the applicable legal and regulatory framework within the European Union and member jurisdictions, including the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and the UK Bribery Act
  • Proven experience in identifying and resolving compliance, legal or regulatory issues quickly and effectively
  • Experience communicating and working with government agencies and officials on EU compliance, legal or regulatory issues
  • Ability to understand corporate objectives and to work in partnership with business colleagues to implement effective compliance programs that are consistent with those objectives
  • Demonstrated experience prioritizing conflicting demands from multiple business units in a fast-paced environment
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and proven ability to communicate and work with all levels of the organization (including regional management and field personnel)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required. Fluency in French or other European language is useful
  • Regular travel throughout the European Union and occasional travel to the United States is required
